Cover Story Overview

Two months after the 9/11 attacks, Usama bin Ladin claimed to possess a nuclear capability. Yet there is no evidence that al-Qa`ida’s quest for nuclear weapons ever went beyond the talking stage. This article reviews al-Qa`ida’s WMD efforts, and then explains why it is unlikely the group will ever acquire a nuclear weapon.
